Gift week: pencil box

Hi,
I promised a couple of masculine project, here's the first one. Linda has (eaten the beans and) altered a tin to give it a great masculine look.
What do you think?

A gift for Him!
I like up-cycling ... it always feels good to make something from almost nothing! For gift week here on the Craft Barn Blog I decided to cater for the men in our lives with this Steampunkish Pen Holder. Of course ... you can decorate a bean tin any way you like ... so if you want a girlie one ... the sky is the limit!

The first step is of course to eat the beans then wash the tin out and thoroughly dry it ... we don't want a rusty pen holder! I used round nose pliers to crimp around the inside top too ... get rid of any nasty sharp edges ... although ... you could line it! Cut a piece of paper 10.25cm by 25cm and add colour or additional stamping as desired. I used Tim Holtz Stamps and both Coffee and Jet Black Archival because it gives a more layered look.

Attach the paper to the bean tin. I use Ranger Glue n' Seal to both adhere and seal the paper ... that way ... the design will never get spoiled by inky fingers!

Place some Humungo Tape to Copper TSS Metal and die cut some shapes. I used Tim's Gadget Gears and stamped them with Black Stazon before attaching randomly to the tin.

Colour the Tando Cogs grab bag using Fired Brick Distress Ink and stamp using Jet Black Archival. Glue some of the cogs to a Tando Compass ... also coloured and stamped and build up a small focal point. I added a few Idea-Ology game spinners and a metal cog at this point too.
Now attach all these pieces to your tin. I used Silicon glue to stick heavier dimensional pieces ... but Claudine Hellmuth's Multi Matte Medium will also work if you do a side at a time.

Linda used:-
Tim Holtz Stamps: Steampunk
Sizzix Gadget Gear Die

See you tomorrow
